Progressive is a very accurate name for this company when it comes to its eco-practices. Taking a big step in helping consumers have access to fuel efficient vehicles, Progressive is sponsoring the Progressive Automotive X Prize. The program offers a purse of $10 million in prizes for groups that "inspire a new generation of viable, super fuel-efficient vehicles that offer more consumer choices." The end goal is to find a production-viable car that get 100 MPGe.
On top of this program, Progressive has plans to plant over 250,000 trees this year throughout the country. Progressive is one of a handful of insurance companies partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees. They recognize the impact that insurance has on paper consumption and wants to give back. These programs all fall in line with the company's strong environmental policy. Progressive's buildings are constructed with sustainable materials, are energy efficient, and protect endangered wetlands in some locations.
