Policy holders are not the only thing in good hands at Allstate, the environment is too. In 2007 Allstate announced its Allstate Green policy. Some have doubted the sincerity of the program as just a way to "green up their image." However, the facts reinforce Allstate's commitments. The Green program does a couple of things that are eco-smart. It is a paperless policy that allows customers to pay online for direct debit. Every time a policy holder gets on the Allstate Green program, the company buys $30 of C02 offsets. Further the company recently purchased 24.5 million kilowatts of renewal energy credits. Allstate also encourages its independent agents to become green agencies with the help of Carbonfund.org. The program seems to be well received too. Some estimates say that up to 30% of all new policies written in the test markets have been Green policies. Oh yeah, they also donate $10 to the Arbor Day Foundation for each new policy.
The Allstate Green program is a very public green effort for the company. This is not the only eco-friendly aspect of the business though. Allstate has a very strong environmental policy that addresses energy, investments, transportation, land conservation, water and waste management. Kudos to Allstate.
