Green insurance from Country Insurance and Financial

Serving 14 states throughout the nation, Country Insurance is one of our smaller insurers that is making a big difference.  Most interesting about Country Insurance is the fact that they have been green way before being green was cool.  According to Country's website, the company has been recycling paper since 1976.  Since then Country has started recycling all sorts of stuff from plastic bottles to office furniture and supplies.  They even buy office carpets for the headquarters made from recycled materials.

At Country, being green is not just a mantra, it's a measurable effort.  In 2008, the company reports that it saved*:

  • 1,189 cubic yards of landfill space
  • 6,741 trees
  • 2,775,801 gallons of water
  • 156, 532 gallons of oil
  • 1,593,478 kilowatt hours
  • 63,251 pounds of air pollution
  • 396.5 tons of paper material weight.

There are other ways Country contributes to a greener future too.  They give employees reusable travel mugs to use (with a discount) in the corporate cafeteria to cut down on waste.  And if you eat a salad while at the cafeteria, don't worry.  Your salad bowl is made of a biodegradable corn-based material.

Water is also conserved at Country's corporate HQ.  All landscape irrigation is down using water from several onsite retention ponds.  Further, in order not to contaminate ground water, custodial functions are performed using the least harmful chemicals that Counrty can find.

Country Insurance proves that any size business can make a substantial contribution to environmentally friendly business.  Guess what?  You can too.  If your current auto insurance doesn't quite stack up to Country take 10 minutes and make an easy change.  Plus, you never know...going green may save you some green.
